EXCEL, DOCKLANDS CONSTRUCTION OF A RESIDENTIAL BLOCK, INCLUDING BASEMENT CAR PARKING ADJACENT

CLIENT MOUNT ANVIL

VALUE £3.8M

PROGRAMME 50 WEEKS

Overview

The project comprises the construction of a residential block, including basement car parking adjacent the Excel Centre in London Docklands.

Our works include the construction of the 20 storey reinforced concrete frame and basement car parking, the basement being constructed in waterproof concrete. This particular project was designed to use prefabricated bathroom ‘pods’ and as such there was an extremely high level of tolerance achieved on the finish to the floors.  This concrete frame also had to be constructed over and around an existing live electricity substation, for which we were required to maintain access 24hours a day and 7 days a week.

Due to the proximity of the London City Airport and that the height of the structure was at the limit with regard to the overflying planes, the top two floors of this project had to be constructed without the use of a crane. This required some ‘out of the box’ thinking with regard to the access, logistics and construction requirements. On this scheme, Carey London also provided the necessary craneage, as well as completing the associated drainage and service required on the project.
